The Huawei Mate 50E arrives as the lowest-standing member of the series behind the vanilla Mate 50, the Mate 50 Pro and the Mate 50 RS Porsche Design. It does cut a few corners in its pursuit of a lower price tag, but it’s still looking like a great phone.
The Mate 50E sports the same 6.7-inch 90Hz OLED panel as the standard Mate 50, but settles for a less powerful Snapdragon 778G chip (once again no 5G connectivity). Storage goes up to 256GB, again with support for 256GB NM memory cards.
The camera system retains the XMAGE 50MP main shooter with f/1.4-4.0 variable aperture as well as the 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide snapper. The front skips the notch with the 3D ToF sensor and relies only on a single 13MP ultrawide camera with f/2.4 aperture.
The 4,460 mAh battery is also borrowed from the vanilla Mate 50 along with the 66W charging support.
Color options are Silver, Black and Purple and the Mate 50E starts at CNY 3,999 ($575) for the standard 128GB version with deliveries coming in October. No word on international release, but don’t hold your breath for this one.
